At a recent meeting of the staff instructors of the Yosemite Institute, 4 couples (husbands and wives) sat around a circle, one at each of the compass points (N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, and NW). Each instructor had a different specialty. From the clues below determine the first and last names, the specialty, and the seating location of each instructor.

  1. No husband is seated next to his wife.
  2. The seating is alternately male and female.
  3. Beth is married to the astronomer.
  4. Ken and the Miller who specializes in glaciology are opposite each other.
  5. The botanist and the instructor at the Southeast position often hike together.
  6. Roger is located at the East pole of the circle.
  7. Wilson, the one who is a zoologist, is between Mary and one of the Ables.
  8. Peggy's interest is botany.
  9. Ken and the instructor seated at the West position went to the same college.
  10. Larry and Roger are married to the botanist and the ichthyologist respectively.
  11. The entomologist is located at the Southwest position.
  12. Sue and Mike got married before Sue finished her major in topography.
  13. The Snyders are involved the study of birds and bees (ornithology and entomology).
